EXISTING INDUSTRIES STATUS

        The  District Industries  Centre, Ganjam has come into existence in the year 1978. Prior to that, there were only 2 (two) medium ,& large-scale industries  and  620  number  of  SSI  units. After  establishment of D.I.C various support and services are being provided to prospective entrepreneurs for  establishment  of small scale/village and  cottage  industries in  the district. Further, the industrial policy resolutions such as of 1980, 1986, 1992  and 1996  declared by  the  state  government  has  provided  various incentives to SSI for  their sustained growth. The  scenario  of Industrial Development in the district is reflected hereunder:

        As on 31.3.99, 5521 no. of  SSI  units have  been  established in Ganjam  district. with  an  investment  of  9115.87  lakhs and employment opportunities for 27,543 persons have been created.

During the year 1999-2000,  234 No. of SSI units have been established in the district with an investment of Rs.1588.38 lakhs and employment has been provided to 1501 persons. Category wise break up of 234 SSI units set up during 1999-2000 is reflected below. 

INDUSTRIAL ESTATES OF THE DISTRICT

In Ganjam district there are 3 (three) no. of industrial estates located at Berhampur, Bhanjnagar and Chatrapur. Developed plots and sheds along  with  other  infrastructural facilities like Road, Drainage, water supply, electricity are being provided by IDCO in those areas.

BERHAMPUR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

This is the oldest industrial estate of the district established over  a  patch  of  land  measuring 13  acres. The  present status of the industrial estate is as follows.

Details of Working Units of Industrial Estate, Berhampur 

BHANJANAGAR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

This industrial estate is located at Jilundi over an area of 12.5 acres of land. 4 nos. oftwin sheds  have  been  constructed by IDCO since long and  all are lying  vacant. Although entrepreneurs are being advised to set up their units in these sheds but the response  has  not been very much encouraging because of lack of infrastructural facilities like Road; Electricity and Water facilities.

CHATRAPUR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

This industrial estate  was  developed  by IDCO  for promotion of large number  of  Chemical industries  keeping in view the suitability of the site and its close proximity to Indian Rare Earth Limited (IRE LTD) , Chatrapur and M/s. Jayashree  chemicals, Ganjam. Land  measuring 34 acres have been acquired by IDCO for the  chemical  complex. So  far 13 Nos. of units have been allotted with land and one unit has been  provided with 4 nos of shed(A/1 to A/4) constructed by IDCO. Most of the units  have been severely affected by the  last  cyclone. Only  3  units  are  in  working condition. The details of running units are as follows:-

For the  chemical complex  a  good no.  of  projects  have  been”identified and efforts  are  being  made to promote selected projects by organising  industrial  campaigns. The  list  of projects identified for Chemical complex areas follows:

AUTONAGAR COMPLEX, HALDIAPADAR

The project of Autonagar Complex was conceived during the year 1987 with the over all objective of shifting of existing Automobile  units  from Aska Road, reducing  congestion inside Berhampur  City  and  creating  huge employment  potential  in  Automobile  sector  by  establishing  Repairing/ Servicing centres , Engineering work shops, Spare parts  shops etc/. Orissa Industrial  Infrastructural   Development   Corporation  was  assigned  the responsibility  of  providing  required  infrastructural  facility  in  the Autonagar Complex. During  the  year  1988-89  a patch of land measuring 28 acres  purchased at Haladiapadar, which is situated by the side of NH5, at a distance of 5 kms. from Berhampur  Railway  Station. The  patch  of land is well  connected with all  important  places/cities  by  both  Railways  and Roadways.

IDCO  authorities  have  developed 274 no. of plots in phase I & II out of which 266 no. of units have been  allotted with 272 no. of plots. So far only 16 no. of  automobile/ Garage/ Body building  units  are  working. Other land owners are being pursued to shift their existing units from Aska Road to the Autonagar complex. Similarly, only 2 auto spare parts shops are working over plots allotted for business/ commercial establishments. Others are being pursued to  set up their  establishments  early. IDCO authorities have  provided  basic  infrastructural  facilities  like electricity, water supply, drainage, road etc. in the area. The progress of  Autonagar complex is being reviewed from time  to  time at the  level of R.D.C, Berhampur for accelerating sustained growth of the Autonagar Complex. There is also proposal for acquisition of additional land measuring 103 acres for expansion of the Autonagar Complex.

Further, the Truck Terminus and Transport offices are likely to  be shifted to the Autonagar Complex area in due course of time. After shifting of  all  existing  Automobile  units  rom  Aska Road and establishment of sophisticated Auto spares manufacturing units, Engineering workshops, Truck terminus, the over all commercial activity of the area will be increased to a great extent along  with  other  amenities  and utility services such as Banking  facilities, Labour  colonies, Police  Out post  Dispensary, Tele-communication facility etc. 

A number  of new  projects  have  been   identified for promotion of Autonagar  complex. Efforts  are  on to  identify potential  entrepreneurs, arrange finance  from  OSFC/ Commercial  Banks  for early implementation of projects.
