(The
Only University of Southern Division of Odisha)
The
Berhampur University saw the
light of the day on January 2nd, 1967.
Located in a land soaked with
vibrant historical
memories, rich cultural
heritage and bounteous nature
all around, it symbolizes the
hopes and
aspirations of the
people of
southern
Odisha. The
University campus of
Bhanja Bihar
named after the immortal
Poet Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja
was inaugurated by
Dr.V.V.Giri, the then President of India
on March 4th, 1972.
The
University campus spreading over an area
of about 250 acres
is located at a distance of 12 km
away from the city of Berhampur in the south east direction on the
fringe of
the Bay
of Bengal.
The famous
Gopalpur-on-Sea is 5 km to the south east of Bhanjabihar. The Golabandha
military cantonment is on the south at
a distance of
about 9
km. Chatrapur,
the district
headquarter of
Ganjam is at a distance of 16 km to
its north-east. The
campus is located between NH5
to the north and
Berhampur-Gopalpur road to the south, both
of which are connected
by a road intersecting the campus.
University buses as well as private buses ply between the campus and the
city.
The
department has 19 departments with some
new disciplines. The
inclusion of faculties
like Marine Science,
Journalism, Linguistics and Professional courses like Computer
Application and
Busniness Administration make
the academy different from other Universities of the state.
Nearly all the departments offer M.Phil courses.
